Great Night for Little Gems
On 18th December 2011, local residents gathered together on a cold winter evening to attend the Kashmir Youth Project (KYP) 'Little Gems Night' at the Unity House Centre on Belfield Road, Rochdale.
The evening event included a live performance from Nasir Khan, local Asian artist, who performed a number of his popular tracks including his inaugural song which catapulted him into international stardom and an exclusive track from his new album, 'Mera Pakistan'.
Nasir Khan was supported by a cameo appearance by Rochdale's own boy band 'Bonafide' who were unable to perform live due to a death within their close family but did give away prizes to the winners of the raffle draw and those that secured goods through auctions.
The event was organised by staff and volunteers in KYP's nursery (Little Gems) to raise funds for new outdoor play equipment for the children attending Little Gems Nursery and to raise awareness of the excellent community facilities at KYP's Unique Enterprise and Unity House centres, on Belfield Road, Rochdale.
Iram and Melissa, event lead organisers, commented that 'The response from local people and local businesses has been overwhelming. Everyone we contacted, from local artists, event organisers, local businesses etc, was willing to help us in some shape or form to support this family fund raising event'. They went on to express their deepest thanks to all the sponsors, performers and volunteers who contributed to making the event a resounding success.
Anwar Shad, evening compere and Crescent Radio presenter, said "The event provided an excellent opportunity to bring the community together, enjoy the quality entertainment and to raise much needed funds for valuable play equipment for children to ensure they get a good start in their early years education and development. All the artists, support staff and local businesses were amazing in donating their time, skills and money for a worthy cause".
