Regeneration
KYP has been in existence for three decades and, like any organisation, it has had its highs and lows. An area of under representation that has been of particular success is that of community capacity building/economic development. There are many individuals who have made, and continue to make, a significant contribution to the knowledge, skills, and expertise both at a local and regional level.
While KYP has clearly benefited from their time and skills, KYP has also facilitated and offered a platform for their development. This level and type of capacity building is creating the leaders and visionaries who will continue to support KYP's aims and objectives while offering a significant contribution to the wider community.
Although KYP has always been a hub for local residents to develop professionally, more recently, KYP has been a catalyst for regeneration in the area. Over the past three years, the landscape of Belfield Road has changed considerably and most of this can be contributed to Unique Enterprise Centre, arguably the best mill conversion in the North West. The presence of UEC and Unity House has brought the likes of the NHS Croft Shifa Health Centre, a new Aldi Supermarket and an extension of Rochdale Swimming baths complete with indoor sports facilities. There are also plans for the new Heybrook Primary School to be built on the old KYP site.
However, we at KYP firmly believe that regeneration is about communities, not just buildings.
